Fontecchio and Detroit, together again in the future?

Fontecchio Detroit

Among first games of NBA PlayOffs 2024 and the draws for the tiebreakers in view of the next Draft, the news on Simone Fontecchio e Detroit however, are not diminished. On the contrary: with the Pistons not involved in the postseason, due to an almost historically bad season, speculation and rumours about summer player and contract moves have begun to take centre stage in the Motor City.

One of the most authoritative sources when it comes to the Michigan franchise is James L. Edwards III. On the columns of TheAthletic, the reporter stresses how there are currently 11 members of Monty Williams' roster that will be in a couple of months unrestricted free agent, restricted free agent or with a contract extension clause in the hands of the Pistons themselves (team options). Fontecchio arrived in Detroit at the trade deadline, so the Pistons can re-sign him thanks to the bird rights obtained in February. Simone has one on his plate a qualifying offer of 5.2 million of dollars which 99.9% will refuse, as he is in possession of far more advantageous offers.

These are Simone's feelings and report at the end of the season in Detroit.

Among these, so Edwards III assures us, the most attractive and 'certain' is that of Detroit itself. To use a contemporary yardstick to place the former Utah Jazz's next contract in a hypothetical range, one speaks of Kennard's signings to the Clippers (4 × 56) or Bogdan Bogdanovic to the Hawks (4 × 68).

What is most interesting at the moment is the Fontecchio's full approval for a possible re-signing, also thanks to the fruitful months that saw him star in the Pistons' season finale before injuring his foot in the last remnants of the Regular Season. Not an award or a bonus, then, but a fair recognition of the functional role Fontecchio took on right from the start in the Pistons' organisation.
